ExtenZe Racing Heluva Goods! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen Race Recap

Track: Watkins Glen International, 2.45-mile road course, Watkins Glen, New York

Kevin Conway, No. 34 ExtenZe Ford Fusion

Starting Position: 42nd

Finishing Position: 31st

Road racing is challenging enough for veteran NASCAR drivers, with the series schedule including only two road-course events.  On Sunday at Watkins Glen International, NASCAR’s leading Sprint Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year driver, Kevin Conway started only his second road race of his Sprint Cup career.

After starting in the 42nd position, Conway and the ExtenZe Racing team made good gains during their first appearance at the fast course in the Finger Lakes Region, including recovering from an early spin.  The team ran clean the rest of the race and finished 31st on the lead lap. This finish gave Conway his 21st straight Raybestos Rookie of the Race award.

Next up on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule is a return visit to Michigan International Speedway for the running of the CARFAX 400 on Sunday, August 15.

Comments from ExtenZe Racing Ford Team Driver Kevin Conway after the Watkins Glen race:

“It started out a little bit rough but we figured it out.  I spun early in the inner loop and got us a lap down.  Got that lap back and the whole ExtenZe Racing team did a really good job getting the car a lot better and just learned a lot and again finished again right there with our teammate.  We’ll take that and head on to Michigan and see what we can learn there and try to add to our Raybestos Rookie of the Year points lead.

“Michigan is a racetrack where we had engine failure 38 laps in but we had a really good car.  It’s a racetrack I can’t wait to get to.  I really like the two-mile, mile-and-a-half racetracks so getting back to a little bit of something more than I know and a racetrack that I’ve been to before.”
