ExtenZe Racing LIFELOCK.com 400 Race Recap
Track: Chicagoland Speedway, 1.5-mile oval, Joliet, Illinois
Kevin Conway, No. 34 ExtenZe Ford Fusion
Starting Position: 42
Finishing Position: 33
Leading NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year driver Kevin Conway and the No. 34 ExtenZe Racing team succeed in their goal of completing as many laps possible during Saturday night’s LIFELOCK.COM 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway. It was, however, a hard fought battle as Conway and the team battled the car all race long.
The night ended with Conway sucking in fumes the last 20 laps of the race after the crush panels were knocked out in a collision with another car allowing carbon monoxide to fill the cockpit. He was given oxygen after the race at his team hauler and was able to rest and recover.
Despite the challenges, it was another valuable learning experience at Chicagoland Speedway for Conway who ran consistent lap times with the top 20 drivers as the night went along. It was a strong effort that ended with a 33rd-place result. The finish also moved the No. 34 car ahead one spot in owner points.
Conway’s finish at Chicagoland also gave him his 18th consecutive Rookie of the Race award and he continues to lead the Raybestos Rookie standings in the Sprint Cup Series. Conway and the ExtenZe Racing team have an off weekend coming up and then head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the running of the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 25th.
Comments from ExtenZe Racing Ford Team Driver Kevin Conway after the LIFELOCK.COM 400:
“It wasn’t a lot of fun here at the end. I don’t feel great after we got a bunch of fumes in the car. But, overall, the race wasn’t too bad. We were consistent at the end of the night. Our ExtenZe Ford was fighting handling, and I think all our cars were this weekend at Front Row, but we were right there with the guys.
“We finsihed the race, gained points and earned another Raybestos Rookie of The Race Award. We’ll take it and move onto Indianapolis.”
