ExtenZe Racing Lenox Industrial Tools 301 Race Recap
Track: New Hampshire International Speedway, one-mile oval, Loudon, New Hampshire
Kevin Conway, No. 34 ExtenZe Ford Team
Starting Position: 41
Finishing Position: 32
Leading NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year driver Kevin Conway and the ExtenZe Racing team started from the 41st position in the rookie’s first start at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday and had to overcome a challenging obstacle to take the checkered flag in the 32nd position.
The team worked to improve a tight-handling condition during early-race pit stops and made some progress to free up the car. But in the cockpit, Conway was dealing with two broken throttle springs, making it difficult to control the accelerator.
The team was able to replace the springs later in the race, and the No. 34 ExtenZe Racing Ford rebounded and began to post top-20 lap times. This allowed Conway to finish the race earning him another Rookie of the Race award.
Conway continues to lead the Raybestos Rookie standings in the Sprint Cup Series and heads to Daytona International Speedway for this upcoming 4th of July weekend’s running of the Coke Zero 400 on Saturday, July 3rd.
Comments from ExtenZe Racing Ford Team Driver Kevin Conway after the Loudon race:
“We really struggled a lot because within the first five laps we broke both throttle return springs, so that made for a long day. Every time you mashed the gas, it would go all the way to the floor. You’d have to pick it up with your foot and when you’d try to roll back into it, it would just fall to the floor. That long green run made it really, really tough. Once we got it fixed, we were running really good lap times, but we dug ourselves such a big hole that it was a pretty miserable day overall.”
