ExtenZe Racing Aaron’s 499 Race Recap
Track: Talladega Superspeedway, 2.66-mile tri-oval, Talladega, Alabama
Kevin Conway, No. 38 ExtenZe Ford Team
Starting Position: 33
Finishing Position: 30
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series leading Raybestos Rookie driver Kevin Conway was geared up for his Sprint Cup superspeedway debut at Talladega this past weekend, but it was a gear problem taken on early in the race that hampered his efforts in the Aaron’s 499. The No. 38 ExtenZe Racing Ford developed a transmission issue that kept Conway from shifting out of fourth gear.
But the Cup Series Rookie ran another clean race on the track, avoided several multi-car crashes, and came away with his first Cup Series superspeedway race under his belt. The team finished in 30th place. This finish gave Conway his eighth Rookie of the Race award.
Comments from ExtenZe Racing Ford Team Driver Kevin Conway after the Aaron’s 499:
“It was a pretty frustrating day, having the problem with the transmission. Coming into this race as a rookie, I knew it was going to be challenging already, so having a mechanical issue didn’t help. But the ExtenZe Racing team worked hard all day and we hung in there to come home 30th. We’ll do what we need to do this week and we’ll be ready for next week at Richmond.”
