Conway, the leading driver in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year campaign cleared another major hurdle Sunday — his first Sprint Cup series race at the action-packed Bristol Motor Speedway. Conway battled some engine issues in the No. 37 ExtenZe Ford Fusion throughout the Food City 500, but ran consistent laps and successfully avoided trouble on the track.
Conway finished a season’s best 28th and secured the No. 37 Ford’s position in the top-35 owner standings. He also captured his fourth consecutive Rookie of the Race award.
Comments from ExtenZe Racing Ford Team Driver Kevin Conway after the Food City 500:
“Well we finished the race at Bristol as a rookie so I am pretty pleased with our day overall. We dropped a cylinder early in the race and went on to drop three or four more by the end of the race so it made it tough on restarts and getting up off the corners.
“But, all things considered, it was a good day for the No. 37 ExtenZe Ford Fusion. We locked ourselves into the top 35 and gave ourselves our best finish of the year so far. It feels great to get out of Bristol with a decent finish in my first career Cup Series start here.”
